Artists from different backgrounds and nationalities tell, through their works, the ills, distortions and interpretations of a symbol that, while an element of recognition, can also represent vacuity, borders and limits to freedom. The exhibition is not only a journey through different images and techniques – from photography to video, from painting to drawing – but also an introspective journey that invites reflection on the sense of belonging, the notion of nationhood and the borders that often generate conflicts and divisions.

“Motion of a Nation,” An exhibition documenting a singular journey through not only one of the symbols of iconographic tradition, but also the nation, the notion of nation, which are also belonging, but also meaningless rags. A symbol of recognition, but also sometimes of vacuity. Nations as such are a limit to freedom, a constraint, a prison, a limit, a boundary, a justification, a pretext for generating political, economic conflicts, endless wars.

As curator Antonio Arevalo states, “Motion of a Nation is not presented as a simple archive of images, but as a bold and ironic journey through the contemporary arts scene, where art becomes an instrument of resistance and cultural proposal.“

The exhibition, involving 31 artists and a collective, aims to offer a key to recreating a primordial space of creative freedom, where new visions can emerge and challenge conventions. A unique opportunity to explore how symbols and nations are also tools of social critique, memory and artistic experimentation.

The exhibition will be held at Venice SPUMA-Space for the Arts (Giudecca, Fondamenta san Biagio 800R) and will be open free of charge from May 31 to July 31, Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. / in July on appointment only.

Artisti di diversa provenienza e nazionalità raccontano, attraverso le loro opere, i mali, le distorsioni e le interpretazioni di un simbolo che, pur essendo un elemento di riconoscimento, può anche rappresentare vacuità, confini e limiti alla libertà.

La mostra non è solo un viaggio tra immagini e tecniche diverse — dalla fotografia al video, dalla pittura al disegno — ma anche un percorso introspettivo che invita a riflettere sul senso di appartenenza, sulla nozione di nazione e sui confini che spesso generano conflitti e divisioni.

“Motion of a Nation”, Una mostra che documenta un percorso singolare attraverso non soltanto uno dei simboli della tradizione iconografica, ma anche la nazione, la nozione di nazione, che sono anche appartenenza, ma anche stracci senza significati. Un simbolo di riconoscimento, ma talvolta anche di vacuità.

Le nazioni in quanto tali sono un limite alla libertà, un vincolo, una prigione, un limite, un confine, una giustificazione, un pretesto per generare conflitti politici, economici, guerre senza fine.

Come dichiara il curatore Antonio Arevalo “Motion of a Nation non si presenta come un semplice archivio di immagini, ma come un viaggio audace e ironico nel panorama delle arti contemporanee, dove l’arte diventa strumento di resistenza e proposta culturale”.

L’esposizione, che coinvolge 31 artisti e un collettivo, si propone di offrire una chiave di lettura per ricreare uno spazio primordiale di libertà creativa, in cui nuove visioni possano emergere e sfidare le convenzioni. Un’occasione unica per esplorare come simboli e nazioni siano anche strumenti di critica sociale, di memoria e di sperimentazione artistica.
